Since doing the liver detox 2 months ago, it has been my next goal to complete the Master Cleanse a.k.a. the Lemonade Diet. Although Beyoncé did this to lose 22lbs for her role in Dreamgirls, I’m choosing to do this to clear my acne and cleanse my body from alcohol and other contaminants such as pesticides, herbicides and preservatives etc.
The Master Cleanse is a drink made up of lemon juice, maple syrup (Grade B), cayenne pepper and water. The lemons cleanse, the maple syrup gives you vital minerals and calories and the pepper apparently breaks up mucous in the body, delivers vitamins B & C and gives you that extra kick needed. No food is consumed for the length of this detox although herbal teas and laxatives can be taken. I will probably drink green and mint tea while doing this.
Benefits of the Master Cleanse (Lemonade Diet):
- Removes toxins from your body
- Improves skin; eradication of acne, and a more youthful appearance
- Removes cravings associated with alcohol, coffee, junk food, tobacco and other habit forming beverages
- Healing of stomach aches, feeling of bloating, indigestion, and colon issues
- Alleviation of chronic pains which are somehow linked to the clogging of internal organs
- A heightened energy level and lack of fatigue
- A reduction in allergies and its symptoms
- A rapid and massive weight loss
- A general feeling of well-being and comfort
- Becoming more in-tune with your body and understanding its signals better
What I’m expecting during the next 10 days?
- Lack of energy
- Headaches (due to toxins leaving the body)
- Difficulties concentrating at work
- Lack of social life
My 10 day plan:
My official cleanse starts tomorrow on a Friday. Since I am returning to work after a 5-day hiatus, I will eat a large, healthy breakfast to give myself energy to deal with the overflows of emails and stress, then I will start drinking the lemonade at lunch. I’ve heard through friends and my sister who have done it that after 3 days, your metabolism slows, the hunger disappears and then you’re good to go. So, I’m giving myself the week-end to recover and by Monday, I should be in shape for a full work week without food! On the 11th day, you have to slowly start easing food back into your system starting with orange juice and vegetable soup but I’ll discuss this in detail later.
I have heard that a lot of people quit after 3 or 4 days and as someone who loves to eat, I can understand why. Yet, you have to take it one day at a time. I think this will be a spiritual experience for me, getting in-tune with my body. I will be doing this cleanse with a colleague at work so we will motivate each other to keep going and not to stare at our colleagues delicious bagels or fries at lunch time.
The Master Cleanse recipe:
Since I have seen many different versions of this recipe on the Internet and from my naturopath, I prefer to play around with it first before communicating it to you.
Daily video diaries (Vlog on YouTube)
To help give me the extra motivation I will no doubt need to continue, I have decided to vlog (video blog) about my experience so stay tuned to watch my daily video dairies. I’m sure you’ll be just as amused as I with my grumpy and hungry attitude (bare in mind I am a girl with a HUGE appetite) but I am determined to do this. I will compare my results with Little Big Chris who vlogged about his experience.
Tonight I am finishing all leftovers in my fridge since no food will be entering my house over the next 10 days. Tonight I finish corn on the cob, a delicious vegan BLT wrap from Aux Vivres and leftover Mexican tofu stew.
Wish me luck and stay tuned!
