  1. Use products made from plant and natural extracts instead of oil based. Thanks.

  2. There are so many ways that we can decrease our dependence on oil. Renewable energy resources, utilizing public transportation instead of cars when possible, and bio-diesel fuels, just to name a few. I have actually been trying to eliminate my family’s dependence on oil by not buying products that contain petroleum-based ingredients. My husband an I also ride our bikes as much as possible. We have managed to survive as a “one-car family” in a very suburban area. I believe that even as individuals, we can make a difference. As my young daughter grows up, I want to instill in her these sakes beliefs and the desire to make a difference.

  3. I mostly take public transport 90% of the time even being
A mom dragging my 2 little boys I find it
Eco friendly and responsible. I refuse to own a car as much as I can worst case I d like to use Communauto , a concept really cool to share cars in real need.
I also think we should mostly consume fresh produce made in Quebec organic, I also switch to that recently.

There are many more steps we can take but Iam really in the learning stage.

  4. The most effective way to reduce the dependence on oil (or anything) is to make it so costly the consumer is financially burdened. The market demand for a cheaper replacement will spur innovations for greener solutions. Higher prices for oil levels the field for green products; it is easier for green replacement products to compete and many people are willing to pay a little extra for green.

California is betting on the make it hurt in the pocketbook theory with the cap-and-trade program (Greenhouse Gas). The state is making emission allowances a traded product which quantifies the cost of using fossil fuels; retail consumers recognize the pass-through expense of emissions in higher utility bills. Quebec is joining California in the cap-and-trade program and will be linked. The program starts with an allowance auction in November this year for go-live in January 2013.

Personally, I don’t know what it will take for me to switch my deodorant!

  5. I believe in using a bike, public transportation, etc. but I also believe in buying local. I make my own cleaning supplies, because it is safer for kids and pets, but also because it doesn’t make sense to transport those things for many kms in a truck. I farm my own vegetables all summer long, that way I know they are organic, fresh, and they don’t require any type of transportation to my house.

I ban any plastic toy from my house, unless I buy it used, or someone gives it to me. In fact, I try to avoid plastic whenever possible. I made the switch to a reusable mug and bottle a long time ago. I avoid anything disposable. Except toilet paper! But my son was on cloth diapers for 3 years, it is a huge relieve for me to know that those diapers aren’t in a landfill right now, and that no transportation was required for thousand and thousand of diapers.
